Vanderbilt stunned the home crowd at Kroger Field early on, dominating the first quarter by controlling the clock for over 17 minutes. Utilizing a heavy short-passing attack, the Commodores jumped out to a 10-0 lead while outgaining the Wildcats 142-14 in the opening frame.
Kentucky’s offense woke up in the second quarter, engineering back-to-back scoring drives. Quarterback Kenny Minchey scored on a short keeper before firing a touchdown pass to DJ Miller to give the Wildcats a 14-10 halftime edge. Vanderbilt struck back in the third quarter when freshman quarterback Jared Curtis found Ja'Cory Thomas for a 34-yard touchdown, trimming the gap to 21-17. From there, Kentucky's defensive front took complete control. They stifled Vanderbilt's rushing attack to a meager 15 total yards and forced two critical turnovers, closing out the contest with 13 unanswered points to cruise to a 34-17 win.
